FREEZE NERVES

FREEZE NERVES

Cryotherapy, also known as cryoablation, is a treatment that uses extreme cold to freeze nerves and ruin abnormal tissues. To do this, the healthcare provider uses liquid nitrogen or argon gas substances.

Moreover, cryotherapy helps treat various skin conditions and cancers.

SYMPTOMS

Cryotherapy is an invasive therapy that takes out damaged tissues from different medical conditions and is performed without open surgery.

The healthcare provider suggests this procedure for:

  • Precancerous cells in the cervix
  • Precancerous skin conditions and early-stage skin cancers
  • Retinoblastoma
  • Skin conditions

Additionally, cryotherapy includes the following benefits:

  • Alleviates migraine symptoms
  • Treats mood disorders
  • Numbs nerve pain
  • Mitigates arthritic pain
  • Prevents dementia and Alzheimer’s disease

TREATMENT

The healthcare provider will apply substances with freezing temperatures to kill abnormal tissues. Substances used in creating intense cold may include:

  • Liquid nitrogen;
  • Liquid nitrous oxide; and
  • Argon gas

Additionally, there are various methods to freeze tissues and to freeze nerves. Applying the intense cold varies depending on the location of the abnormal tissue.

  • External

During this period, the skin peels off, causing a healthy new skin to grow.

  • Internal

During this period, the abnormal tissues freeze and die.

How To Prepare For Cryotherapy?

Before the procedure, the healthcare provider will provide clear instructions. You will be asked to:

  • Stop taking medications, such as blood thinners and aspirin.
  • Limit your diet
  • Ask a family or friend to pick you up after the procedure.

What To Expect During Cryotherapy?

You will be given the following types of anesthesia depending on the location of the abnormal cells:

  • Local anesthesia, which numbs a particular spot; and
  • General anesthesia, which is used during surgeries and puts you to sleep.

For external cryotherapy

The healthcare provider will use a liquid nitrogen substance and apply the cold with a cotton swab and spraying device.

For internal cryotherapy

The healthcare provider will use a cryoprobe. It is inserted on a small cut in your skin.

What To Expect After Cryotherapy?

After external cryotherapy treatment, the treated skin area will go red and blistered. It will form a scab that heals one to three weeks later. Furthermore, you will suffer from mild pain and soreness for three days after the treatment.
