FLIBANSERIN

Flibanserin is an oral drug used to increase the sexual desire in women.

Women who have not gone through menopause but have low sexual desire use this medication.

Low sexual desire caused by medical or mental/mood disorder, problems in the relationship, or the effects of other drugs are not treated with Flibanserin

The most common side effects of flibanserin are:

  • dizziness
  • sleepiness (somnolence)
  • nausea
  • fatigue
  • insomnia
  • dry mouth

Precautions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies before taking flibanserin. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially of: alcohol use, regular use/abuse of drugs/alcohol, liver problems, low blood pressure.

 

Interactions

Flibanserin is metabolized or broken down by liver enzymes. Drugs that induce the activity of these enzymes will decrease blood levels of flibanserin. Examples of such drugs include:

  • carbamazepine (Tegretol),
  • rifampin (Rifadin),
  • John’s Wort,
  • phenobarbital, and
  • several other drugs.

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call emergency hotline. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe drowsiness, severe dizziness, fainting.
