Fidaxomicin can give rise to the following side effects:
- Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. dyspnoea, pruritus, rash, angioedema of mouth, face and throat)
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Gastrointestinal haemorrhage
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Abdominal distention
- Tenderness
- Dyspepsia
- Dysphagia
- Flatulence
- Intestinal obstruction
- Megacolon
- Anorexia
- Dysgeusia
- Constipation
- Increased ALT
- Anaemia
- Neutropenia
Precautions
Extra caution should be given in people with the following medical conditions:
- Severe C. difficile infection
- Inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, toxic megacolon)
- Known macrolide allergy
- Systemic infections
- Moderate to severe liver impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- Pregnancy and lactation
