ESTRIOL

Estriol is a drug that is also known as a naturally occurring estrogen. It makes the vaginal cells normal and has a mild proliferative effect on the endometrium.

Estriol is used in menopausal hormonal treatment and as a diagnostic aid in atrophic cervical smears. It is also used to treat infertility due to cervical hostility, atrophy of the lower urogenital tract related to estrogen deficiency, and menopausal atrophic vaginitis.

  • Pregnancy
  • Thrombosis
  • Known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumors
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • History of otosclerosis during pregnancy or previous use of steroids

Estriol may have the following side effects:

  • Breast tension or pain
  • Nausea
  • Spotting
  • Fluid retention
  • Cervical hyper secretion

Take extra caution in patients with the following medines:

  • Thrombosis
  • Severe liver disorders
  • Porphyria
  • History during pregnancy or previous use of steroids of severe pruritus
  • Cholestatic jaundice
  • Herpes gestationis
  • Otosclerosis
  • Lactation

 

Interactions

Estriol may interact with the following medicines:

  • Activated charcoal
  • Barbiturates
  • Carbamazepine
  • Griseofulvin
  • Hydantoin
  • Rifampicin
  • Oral anticoagulants
  • Succinylcholine
  • Theophyllines
  • Troleandromycin

 If you think you may have used Estriol more than the usual dosage, seek medical help immediately.
