Erythromycin + Zinc acetate is a combination drug composed of erythromycin and zinc acetate that is used to treat acne. Erythromycin is an antibiotic that has antibacterial effects through the inhibition of RNA-dependent protein synthesis. The drug attaches to the 50S ribosomal subunit which blocks transpeptidation. Zinc enhances the synthesis of copper binding protein metallothionein in enterocytes. Copper binding may limit the intestinal absorption of dietary copper and reabsorption of copper in bile, gastric acid and saliva.
