ENTEROVIRUS D68

Enterovirus D68 is a virus that may cause flu-like symptoms. Most cases are mild and last about a week. Severe cases usually happen to those who have weak immune system, asthma or respiratory problems. Infants and children are also at high risk of getting this virus.

Symptoms can be mild or severe.

Mild symptoms may include:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Sneezing
  • Runny Nose
  • Body and Muscle Aches

Severe symptoms may include:

  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty Breathing

DIAGNOSIS

To diagnose EV-D68 infection, several lab tests must be performed. It is because the symptoms are often similar to other respiratory illnesses. Once a sample from the person’s nose and throat, approximately one week to get the results back to your doctor.

 

TREATMENT

There is no specific treatment for EV-D68 virus. The illness usually goes away on its own. Pain relievers can only help in reducing the pain but it doesn’t treat the problem.
