TREATMENT
What Happens During The Procedure?
During endovascular coiling, the doctors would insert a microcatheter connected to the initial catheter and attach a coil. If the microcatheter reaches the aneurysm, an electric current will be released to split the catheter from the coil.
A coiling operation would require you to remain in the hospital. Given by your healthcare provider, the procedures vary on your condition. Furthermore, the procedure can be conducted by specialists, including the following:
- Interventional radiologist. This medical staff deals in a radiology-based diagnosis and treatment approach.
- Neurosurgeon. This medical professional focuses on nervous system surgery and treatment.
These specialists can help each other to perform the procedure. You will be unconscious during the operation due to the general or local anesthesia given by nurses.
The anesthesia may come in different types depending on the medical staff handling your procedure. Finally, the recovery time lasts for a month up to 3-6 months, depending on the patient, the location of the aneurysm, and whether there were complications.
