Distigmine bromide is a drug that is used to treat myasthenia gravis and other disorders. It is a quaternary ammonium compound that is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. It improves the activity of acetylcholine by promoting tonicity and peristalsis in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as increases the wall tension of urinary bladder, sphincter, ureter and the skeletal muscles. It also decreases intraocular pressure.
