DEXIBUPROFEN

Dexibuprofen are used as to reduce pain and control inflammation. It belongs to the family of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that works by reducing the amount of prostaglandins, substances that control inflammation and pain, your body produces.

This medication is used to relieve pain caused by certain conditions such as Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Dexibuprofen is also used to treat mild to moderate fever and pain.

Do not take this drug:

  • If you are allergic to any ingredient in this drug.
  • If you previously had bleedings or perforations in your gastrointestinal system caused by NSAID.
  • If you have, or have ever had, peptic ulceration (ulcer in your stomach or duodenum) or bleeding in your digestive tract.
  • If you have a fever or any active bleedings.
  • If you have serious heart failure or serious liver or kidney disease.
  • If you are in the beginning of the 6th month of pregnancy.

Common side effects may include:

  • Acid or sour
  • Heartburn
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Abdominal Discomfort
  • Skin rash
  • Blood in Urine and Stools

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Your doctor may have prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to any of its content or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are over 60 years old.
  • Your medical condition or history, especially of:
    • Had a Stomach or Duodenal Ulcer
    • Bowel Ulcers, Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease
    • Liver or Kidney Disease or you are Addicted to Alcohol
    • Blood Clotting Disorders
    • You Have Oedema (When Fluid Collects in your Body Tissues)
    • Heart Disease or High Blood Pressure
    • Asthma or any other Breathing Problems
    • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (A Disease which Affects Joints, Muscles and Skin)
    • Mixed Collagenosis (A Collagen Disease which Affects Connective Tissues)

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

  • Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Medicines for Pain, Fever and Inflammation)
  • Warfarin or other Medicines Used to Thin the Blood or Stop Blood Clots
  • Lithium Used to Treat Certain Mood Disorders
  • Methotrexate
  • Medicines Used to Treat High Blood Pressure or Heart Problems (For Example, Beta Blockers)
  • Certain Heart Medicines Called ACE-Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists
  • Diuretics (Water Tablets)
  • Corticosteroids
  • Certain Antidepressants (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
  • Digoxin (A Heart Medicine)
  • Immune Suppressants like Ciclosporin
  • Aminoglycoside Antibiotics (Medicines to Treat Infections)
  • Medicines that Increase Potassium Levels in the Blood (ACE Inhibitors, Angiotensin-II Receptor Antagonists, Ciclosporin, Tacrolimus, Trimethoprim and Heparins)
  • Drugs Used to Stop or Prevent Blood Clots
  • Phenytoin Used to Treat Epilepsy
  • Phenobarbital and Rifampicin.
  • Low Dose Aspirin (Up To 75 Mg).
  • Sulfonylurea (Certain Oral Anti-Diabetic Medicines)
  • Pemetrexed (A Medicine to Treat Certain Forms of Cancer)
  • Zidovudine (A Medicine to Treat HIV/AIDS)

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.
