CLOMIPHENE CITRATE ORAL

Clomiphene is an oral medication that stimulates ovulation by causing pituitary to produce hormones called gonadotropins. It binds to estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovary, endometrium, vagina, and cervix. The FDA approved clomiphene in February 1967.

This medication is used to treat infertility in women. It stimulates ovulation by increasing the amount of hormones that support the growth and release of a mature egg. However, this medication is not recommended for women whose ovaries are no longer making eggs properly (primary pituitary or ovarian failure).

This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: ovarian cysts or enlarged ovaries (not due to polycystic ovary syndrome), abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal gland problems, tumor in the brain (pituitary tumor) before using this medicine.

Side effects may include stomach upset, bloating, abdominal/pelvic fullness, flushing (“hot flashes”), breast tenderness, headache, or dizziness. Notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects persist or worsen.

Precautions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies before taking clomiphene. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
