CLOBETASOL

Clobetasol is a powerful topical corticosteroid and is used for a quick time period. Long term use of topical clobetasol propionate can cause serious systemic side effects and needs to be avoided.

Clobetasol propionate is used on the skin. The medicine is available in different forms such as foam, cream, shampoo, gel, ointment, lotion, solution and spray. Topical clobetasol is also used to heal scalp and skin with psoriasis, rashes and dermatitis. Corticosteroids have potent anti inflammatory actions and suppress the immune response.

Abruptly stopping hydrocortisone in these individuals can cause signs and symptoms of corticosteroid insufficiency. Therefore, topical corticosteroids should be used for short term and only applied to small location(s) of the body.

Clobetasol propionate is a potent topical corticosteroid that can cause side effects if absorbed in the blood. Extended use of clobetasol can depress the capability of the body’s adrenal glands to supply corticosteroids.

There isn’t any good research evaluating the use of topical corticosteroids at some while being pregnant. Therefore, clobetasol and other topical corticosteroids should be used all throughout pregnancy if the potential gain to the mom justifies the risk to the unborn baby. If used while being pregnant, avoid using it for a long time.

It is not known whether or not clobetasol is secreted in breast milk. Therefore, topical corticosteroids have to be used cautiously in nursing mothers.

Clobetasol need to be applied to the affected location(s) of the skin or scalp two times daily, in the morning and at night time. As topical clobetasol is a totally strong corticosteroid, treatment should be confined to two consecutive weeks and no greater than 50 g or 50 ml should be applied per week.
