CLINICAL DEPRESSION

Depression is a mental disorder that ranges from mild and transient sadness to serious and consistent depression. Clinical depression is the more serious type of depression, otherwise called major depressive disorder or major depression. It isn’t the same as sadness caused by a loss, for example, the demise of a friend or family member, or a medical problem like a thyroid problem.

Signs and symptoms of clinical depression may include the following:

  • Feelings of sadness
  • Feelings of emptiness
  • Feelings of loneliness
  • Angry outbursts
  • Irritability
  • Frustration
  • Loss of interest in activities, such as sex or outdoor activities
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Tiredness
  • Lack of energy
  • Reduced appetite and weight loss
  • Increased cravings for food and weight gain
  • Anxiety and agitation
  • Slowed thinking or movement
  • Trouble thinking and making decisions
  • Memory problems
  • Thoughts of death and suicide
  • Unexplained physical problems, such as headaches

Manifestations are generally sufficient to cause recognizable issues involved with others or in everyday activities, for example, work, school or social functioning.

In any case, its symptoms, regardless of whether its serious or not, more often improves with psychological counselling, antidepressant drugs or a combination of these.
