CHILDHOOD ADHD

Childhood attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a long term condition that affects a substantial number of children and normally continues into adulthood. ADHD consolidates a mix of issues, for instance, problems in attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

TYPES

There are three sub types of ADHD:

  • Predominantly inattentive.Most symptoms are due to inattention
  • Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive.Most symptoms are impulsive and hyperactive
  • Co This is a mix of the two

SYMPTOMS

Childhood ADHD occurs more in males than in females, and symptoms can be different in girls and boys.

Symptoms are:

Inattention

  • Neglect to give watchful thought to actions or submit mistakes in schoolwork
  • Experience trouble staying focused in errands or play
  • Does not listen, even when told to
  • Experience issues sticking to tasks and fails to finish schoolwork or errands

Hyperactivity and Impulsivity

  • Squirm with or tap his or her hands or feet, or squirm in the seat
  • Be in a rush, in constant motion
  • Go around or move in conditions when it’s not appropriate
  • Problems in playing or finishing an activity silently
  • Talk too much

 

DIAGNOSIS

There’s no specific test for ADHD, but making a diagnosis will most likely include:

  • Medical exam, to help know other possible reasons for the behavior
  • Data gathering, for any present issues, individual and family history, and school records
  • Meetings or question aires for relatives, child’s teachers or different people who understand your child well, like sitters and coaches
  • ADHD criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-5, disseminated by the American Psychiatric Association
  • ADHD rating scales to help assemble and survey information about your child

TREATMENT

These medicines can decrease symptoms of ADHD, yet they don’t treat it.

Stimulant medicines

At present, stimulant medicines (psycho-stimulants) are the most commonly embraced prescriptions for ADHD.

These include:

  • Amphetamines

Methylphenidates
