CEFUROXIME AXETIL

Cefuroxime axetil is a medicine that is known as antibiotic. It is used to treat infections. It is a second-generation cephalosporin that is given as an injection or as an oral tablet or liquid. It has activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.

Ceforuxime axetil is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Infections caused by susceptible bacteria including pharyngitis and tonsillitis
  • Acute otitis media
  • Maxillary sinusitis
  • Chronicor acute bronchitis
  • Uncomplicated UTI
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Acute uncomplicated gonorrhea (urethritis and cervices)
  • Impetigo
  • Respiratory tract infections (bacterial pneumonia and post-operative lung infections)
  • Pyelonephritis, cystitis and bacteria
  • Phlegm-on
  • Peritonitis and traumatic infections
  • Septicemia
  • Meningitis
  • Bone and joint infection
  • As surgical prophylaxis

Do not give Cefuroxime axetil to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other and penicillins
  • Gastrointestinalabsorption difficulties
  • Children less than 5 years of age

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to beta-lactamantibiotics or cephamycins
  • Renal insufficiency or hepatic impairment
  • History of gastrointestinal diseases
  • Long-term use
  • Pseudo membranous colitis
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation
  • Elderly
  • Concomitant use with amino glycosides
  • Neonates less than 3 months of age

Ceforuxime axetil may interact with the following medicines:

Overdose of the drug may irritate the brain and lead to convulsions. Seek medical help immediately.
