Ceftaroline Fosamil is a cephalosporin that belongs to the fifth generation. It is a prodrug processed into bioactive ceftaroline which inhibits the creation of the bacterial cell wall by attaching to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) 1-3 and preventing cell wall synthesis thus causing the death of bacteria. It is attracted to PBP2a and PBP2x in S. pneumoniae bacteria.
