CAMPHOR

Camphor is used a topical cream to alleviate pain and symptoms in respiratory disorders and to minimize itching. It acts as a counterirritant that can increase blood flow and soothes pain and swelling.

When inhaled, it can reduce cough and also has some anti-fungal properties. It can be used to treat mild burn injuries too. Camphor can stimulate nerve endings, which in turn, eases pain and itching symptoms when topically applied on the skin.

Camphor is used in the following conditions

  • Muscular aches and soreness
  • Sprains and strains

Do not give Camphor to those with the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Hypersensitivity to camphor

Camphor may have the following side effects:

  • Skin sensitivity

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Children below 2 years of age
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Liver disease

Interactions

There is no data regarding drug interactions with camphor.
