CALCIUM PHOSPHATE

Calcium phosphate is known to prevent or treat negative calcium imbalance. It also prevents or minimizes the amount of bone loss. It enhances standard cardiac function.

Calcium phosphate is for dietary supplementation.

Calcium phosphate should not be given in conditions associated with hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria.

Calcium phosphate may have some side effects such as:

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort e.g. constipation, nausea, vomiting, bloating and gas
  • Dry mouth
  • Milk-alkali syndrome
  • Hypophosphataemia
  • Hypercalcaemia

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following conditions:

  • Renal impairment (frequent monitoring of serum calcium and phosphorus is recommended)
  • Sarcoidosis
  • History of nephrolithiasis
  • Patients on cardiac glycosides
  • History of kidney stones
  • Pregnancy

 

Interactions

Calcium phosphate may interact with the following medicines:

  • Calcium-channel blockers
  • Cardiac glycosides
  • Tetracycline
  • Alendronate
  • Atenolol
  • Iron
  • Quinolone antibiotics
  • Sodium fluoride
  • Zinc

Do not take the medication in excess or lesser amounts. Follow your doctors’ prescription strictly.

You should take calcium phosphate with a full glass of water.

Calcium phosphate should be stored at room temperature and avoid heat and moisture.

 Overdose of calcium phosphate may result in:

  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Constipation
  • Stupor
  • Delirium
  • Coma
