BROMPHENIRAMINE-PSEUDOEPH-DM

Brompheniramin and Pseudoeph-DM is a drug combination that treats the symptoms caused by the common cold, flu, allergies, hay fever or other breathing illnesses like sinusitis and bronchitis.

Brompheniramin is an antihistamine. It works by reducing the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body that causes symptoms such as watery eyes; itchy eyes, nose, throat; runny nose and sneezing. Pseudoeph is a decongestant that works by shrinking the blood vessels in the nasal passages.

This combination medication is used to treat symptoms of the common cold or seasonal allergies such as runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes. This medication may also be used in other conditions to be determined by your doctor.

This drug can cause drowsiness. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit the use of alcohol and certain other medications that cause drowsiness.

Children are more likely to have severe side effects compare to adults. Do not give a higher dosage of this drug to children. Follow your doctor’s prescription.

Common side effects of this drug may include:

  • Drowsiness Or Dizziness
  • Dry Mouth, Nose, And Throat
  • Thick Lung Mucus

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Serious side effects of this drug may include:

  • Abnormal Heart Beat such as Fast Heart Rate, Palpitations, Dizziness
  • Chest Tightness
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Decreases in platelets, red blood cells, or white blood cells. Symptoms can include unexplained bruising or increased nosebleeds or bleeding from your gums
  • Trouble urinating
  • Seizures
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing something that’s not there)

Precautions

Before taking this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you have medical condition or taking other drugs that requires you to restrict your intake of Aspartame because this medication may contain Aspartame.
  • Your medical history, especially of:
    • Breathing Problems (e.g. Asthma, Emphysema)
    • Diabetes
    • A Certain Eye Problem (Glaucoma)
    • Heart Problems
    • High Blood Pressure
    • Kidney Problems
    • Liver Disease
    • Seizures
    • Stomach/Intestinal Problems (e.g. Ulcers, Blockage)
    • Overactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)
    • Urination Problems

Older adults and children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially dizziness, drowsiness, mental or mood changes, constipation, fast heartbeat, trouble urinating, or blood pressure changes.

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). MAOIs may increase the side effects of this drug and may even cause death.

Examples of MAOIs include:

  • Selegiline
  • Tranylcypromine
  • Phenelzine
  • Isocarboxazid
  • Rasagiline

Anxiety drugs

Examples of anxiety drugs include:

  • Lorazepam
  • Clonazepam
  • Diazepam
  • Alprazolam

Insomnia drugs

Examples of these drugs include:

  • Temazepam
  • Estazolam
  • Triazolam
  • Zolpidem
  • Eszopiclone
  • Zaleplon

Blood pressure drugs

Examples of these blood pressure drugs include:

  • Terazosin
  • Doxazosin
  • Metoprolol
  • Carvedilol
  • Atenolol
  • Propranolol

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Agitation
  • Confusion
  • Flushing
  • Hallucinations
  • large pupils
  • muscle twitching

In children, excitement may occur first before loss of coordination, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, seizures.
