BORIC ACID

Boric acid is a drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. It has some bacteriostatic and fungistatic activities. It is utilized for irrigation to soothe dry and irritated eyes. It may also be used to remove foreign matter, air pollutants or chlorinated water.

Boric acid is used to treat superficial fungal infections.

Do not use in people with the following conditions:

  • Allergy to Boric
  • Children less than 2 years old

Boric acid may have the following side effects:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Erythematous rash
  • Burning or sticky sensation
  • Irritation

 Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Jock itch for longer than two weeks
  • Athlete’s foot or ringworm for longer than four weeks

 

Interactions

Boric acid may interact with the following medicines:

  • Riboflavin
  • Ophthalmic solutions containing polyvinyl alcohol

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

  • Diarrhea
  • Blue-green Vomit
  • Skin rash
  • Drowsiness
  • Fever
  • Muscle spasm

Seek medical help immediately.
