BETAMETHASONE + CALCIPOTRIOL

Bivalirudin

Betamethasone is a medicine that belongs to a class of drugs known as synthetic corticosteroids. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive effects. Calcipotriol is an analogue of vitamin D and induces differentiation while suppressing the excessive growth of skin cells.

Uses

Betamethasone + Calcipotriol is used in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.

Warnings

Betamethasone + Calcipotriol should not be given to people with the following conditions:

  • Known or suspected disorder of calcium metabolism
  • Erythrodermic, exfoliative and pustular psoriasis
  • Viral infections of the skin
  • Fungal or bacterial skin infections
  • Parasitic infections
  • Skin TB
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Atrophic skin
  • Striae atrophicae
  • Fragility of skin veins
  • Ichthyosis
  • Acne vulgaris
  • Rosacea
  • Ulcers
  • Wounds

Side Effects

Betamethasone + Calcipotriol may have the following side effects:

  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Pruritus
  • Headache
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Rash
  • Influenza
  • Erythema
  • Pain
  • Burning sensation
  • Eye irritation
  • Dry skin
  • Skin atrophy
  • Folliculitis
  • Reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression
  • Manifestations of Cushing’s syndrome
  • Hyperglycemia and glucosuria
  • Rarely, hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria
  • Angioedema
  • Facial edema

Special precautions should be observed in people with the following conditions:

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Betamethasone + Calcipotriol may interact with other steroids.

  • Polyuria
  • Constipation
  • Muscle weakness
  • Confusion
  • Coma
  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • Seek medical help immediately.
