BETAMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE

Betamethasone dipropionate is a steroid that is applied to the skin to treat inflammatory skin disorders. It can be absorbed in normal intact skin and may have effects like that of steroids being given orally or through injections. It is used to treat skin itchiness, skin rashes and other skin problems caused by inflammation.

Betamethasone dipropionate is used to treat the following conditions:

Relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive skin diseases in patients more than 13 years old.

Do not give Betamethasone dipropionate to people with the following conditions:

Betamethasone dipropionate may have the following side effects:

  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Irritation
  • Dryness
  • Folliculitis
  • Hypertrichosis
  • Acneiform eruptions
  • Hypopigmentation
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Maceration of the skin
  • Skin atrophy
  • Striae
  • Miliaria

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Not to be used with adhesive dressings
  • Avoid contact wit h eyes
  • May produce reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression
  • Cushing’s syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Intracranial hypertension
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation
