BENZBROMARONE

Benzbromarone is a drug that decreases uric acid levels in the blood by blocking tubular reabsorption in the kidney and by increasing the excretion of uric acid from the intestines.

Benzbromarone is used to treat increased uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricemia) with gout.

Benzbromarone should not be given in patients with the following conditions:

  • Severe or moderate kidney impairment
  • Uric acid kidney stones

Benzbromarone may have the following side effects:

  • Gastrointestinal effects
  • Acute attack of gout
  • Uric acid kidney stones
  • Kidney colic
  • Liver damage

Precautions

Extra caution should be observed in people with the following medical conditions:

  • Acute gout
  • Liver problems

Interactions

Benzbromarone may interact with the following medicines:

  • Aspirin and other salicylates
  • Coumarin oral anticoagulants

If you think you may have overdosed with Benzbromarone, seek medical help immediately.
