BECLOMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It is used to prevent and control symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. Beclomethasone works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways.

This medication must be used regularly to prevent breathing problems (attacks of wheezing/shortness of breath). It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve an asthma attack. If an attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed.

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to any ingredient in beclomethasone.

Common side effects of this drug include mild cough and wheezing due to chemical irritation.

Other side effects include oral candidiasis or thrush and hoarseness. Other less common side effects are easy bruising, pain, back pain.

Precautions

Before using beclomethasone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients which can trigger allergic reactions or other problems.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:

  • Eye Disease (Cataracts, Glaucoma)
  • Liver Disease
  • Thyroid Problems
  • Diabetes
  • Stomach/Intestinal Problems (Diverticulitis, Ulcer)
  • Bone Loss (Osteoporosis)
  • Current/Past Infections (Tuberculosis, Positive Tuberculosis Test, Herpes, Fungal),
  • Bleeding Problems
  • Mental/Mood Conditions (Psychosis, Anxiety, Depression).

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may interfere with how your medication works. Tell your doctor about all your medications and any you start or stop using during treatment with Beclomethasone.

Some products may interact with this drug including aldesleukin, mifepristone and other drugs that weaken the immune system (like azathioprine, cyclosporine, cancer chemotherapy).

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.
