ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE

Aluminum hydroxide is a medicine that is often combined with Magnesium Hydroxide to treat hyperacidity. It is an antacid that effectively decreases stomach pH by neutralizing the acid in the stomach. It can also be combined with Simethicone to accomplish its antacid effects.

Aluminum hydroxide is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with peptic ulcer, gastritis, esophagitis and dyspepsia
  • Antiflatulent to alleviate the symptoms of gassiness including gas pain associated with hyperacidity
  • Adjunct to H2-blockers or proton pump inhibitors for rapid relief of ulcer symptoms

Do not give Aluminum hydroxide in people with the following conditions:

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Risk of aluminum accumulation and toxicity with advanced kidney disease
  • Phenylketonurics
  • Concomitant use with other medicines
  • Consult first if you will use for  more than 14 days
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Aluminum hydroxide may interact with the following medicines:

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

  • Hypo tension
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • ECG changes
  • Respiratory or mental depression
  • Coma
