ACETAMINOPHEN + SALICYLAMIDE

Acetaminophen is used to relieve pain and reduce fever. Salicylamide is an analgesic and antipyretic combination. It works by blocking substances in the body that cause fever, pain, and inflammation.

This combination medication is used to treat mild to moderate aches and pains caused by headache, muscle and joint soreness, backache, menstrual cramps, colds and flu, sinusitis, toothache, and minor pain from arthritis. This medication may also be used in other conditions to be determined by your doctor.

Do not use this drug:

  • If you are allergic to any ingredient in Acetaminophen or Salicylamide
  • If you have kidney or liver problems or blood clotting problems
  • If you are taking an Anticoagulant (eg, Warfarin) or Sodium Oxybate (GHB)

Common side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Heartburn
  • Nausea
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Your doctor may have prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Serious side effects may include:

  • Severe Allergic Reactions (Rash; Hives; Itching; Difficulty Breathing; Tightness in the Chest; Swelling of the Mouth, Face, Lips, or Tongue)
  • Bloody or Black Stools
  • Confusion
  • Dark Urine or Pale Stools
  • Decreased Urination
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty Swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Hearing Loss
  • Hoarseness
  • Persistent Sore Throat or other Signs of Infection
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Severe or Persistent Vomiting
  • Severe Stomach Pain
  • Unusual Bruising or Bleeding
  • Unusual Tiredness
  • Yellowing of the Skin or Eyes

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these serious side effects.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to any of its content or if you have other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • If you have certain medical conditions, especially of:
    • Bleeding Problems
    • Blood Vessel Problems in the Brain
    • Blockage of the Stomach or Bowel
    • Chickenpox
    • Flu
    • Rheumatoid Arthritis
    • Kawasaki Syndrome
    • Prostate Problems
    • Blockage of the Bladder
    • Difficulty Urinating

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

  • Isoniazid or sodium oxybate (GHB)
  • Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin)
  • Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital)

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Abnormal Behaviour
  • Dark Urine
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Extreme Tiredness
  • Fast or Deep Breathing
  • Loss of Consciousness
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Stomach Pain
  • Vomiting
