5 Best Vitamins for Hair Growth

5 Best Vitamins for Hair Growth

Many people see beautiful hair as a sign of prosperity or wellness. Like the other parts of your body, your hair needs nutrients to be healthy. However, there are many vitamin deficiencies that can lead to hair loss.

Though hair growth depends on various factors including age, genetics, and hormones, vitamins also play an important role.

We have listed the five important vitamins that promote hair growth.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is required by every cell for its development and growth. This applies to your hair as well – which grows faster than other tissues of your body.

Moreover, Vitamin A helps the skin and the scalp make a smooth substance called sebum. Sebum is a substance that moisturizes the scalp and helps keep hair strong. Diets that lack vitamin A may provoke some medical issues, including hair loss.

Vitamin A is created from beta-carotene that is found in certain foods that are rich in beta-carotene including carrots, pumpkins, milk, eggs, spinach, sweet potatoes, yogurt, cod liver oil, and kale.

B-Vitamins

Most people know that biotin, a B-vitamin, is one of the most important nutrients that help hair grow.

Studies have shown that biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss. While biotin is used as an alternative hair loss treatment for all, people who are deficient in this vitamin have the best results after supplementation. However, biotin deficiency is as not as common as b-vitamins that are found in many foods, such as meat, green and leafy vegetables, seafood, almonds, and fish.

Vitamin C

Free radical damage can speed up aging and can cause hair loss.

Vitamin C is known for its antioxidant properties. It protects you from the damage caused by free radicals. Moreover, your body also needs vitamin C to create collagen, a basic part of the hair structure. When combined with iron, it leads to healthy hair growth. You can get vitamin C from foods like citrus fruits, guavas, berries, and peppers.

Vitamin D

Alopecia, the medical term for hair loss is related to vitamin D deficiency. Many studies imply that vitamin D can help in the formation of new hair follicles. These follicles are the minute pores in your scalp where new hairs can grow.

Vitamin E

Like vitamin C, vitamin E is an antioxidant vitamin that can help protect against oxidative damage. According to research, participants who had taken vitamin E for a period of eight months showed a 34.5% increase in their hair length. You can get vitamin E from sunflower seeds, spinach, almonds, and avocados.
