Ganciclovir can lower the number of white blood cells in the blood, increasing the chance of getting an infection. It can also lower the number of platelets, which are necessary for proper blood clotting.

Common side effects include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Decreased Appetite
• Increased Sweating
• Itching
• Decreased Sperm Production or Infertility

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

More serious side effects of this drug are:

• Decreased Levels of Blood Cells
• An Allergic Reaction
• Signs of Anemia (A Low Level Of Red Blood Cells)
• Unusual Bleeding or Bruising
• Fever or Signs Of Infection
• Numbness or Tingling in any Part of the Body

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these serious side effects.

Your doctor may have prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Precautions

• Bone Marrow Damage (Paleness, Increased Chance of Infection, Fever and Chills)
