ACETAMINOPHEN + CAFFEINE

Acetaminophen is used to relieve pain and reduce fever. Caffeine is a stimulant and works by relaxing the muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow.

This combination medication is used to treat headache or muscle pain. This medication may also be used in other conditions to be determined by your doctor.

Do not take this drug:

  • More than prescribed. Too much Acetaminophen intake may cause serious liver problem.
  • If you are allergic to any content of this drug.

Common side effects may include:

  • Sleep Problems (Insomnia)
  • Feeling Nervous, Irritable, or Jittery

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Your doctor may have prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.

Serious side effects may include:

  • Severe Allergic Reaction such as Hives; Difficulty Breathing; Swelling of your Face, Lips, Tongue, or Throat
  • Low Fever with Nausea, Stomach Pain, and Loss of Appetite
  • Dark Urine, Clay-Colored Stools
  • Jaundice (Yellowing of the Skin or Eyes)

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these serious side effects.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you have liver disease, cirrhosis or stomach ulcer
  • If you have a history of alcoholism
  • If you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

  • Isoniazid or Quinolones (eg, Ciprofloxacin)
  • Oral Blood Thinners (eg, Warfarin)
  • Theophyllines (eg, Aminophylline)

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

  • Loss of Appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach Pain
  • Sweating
  • Confusion or Weakness
  • Pain in your Upper Stomach
  • Dark Urine and Yellowing of your Skin or the Whites of your Eyes
