1. Misalignments in the spine
This puts pressure on the back and neck which causes muscle tension and more. A good neck pillow and some postural exercises may help, as well as a trip to the doctor.
2. Poor Posture
If you have poor posture, your spine may be misaligned. If you want to know whether you have poor posture or not, look at yourself in the mirror. Your spine should be straight, with hips and shoulders even. From the side, you should have smooth curves. Your ears should be even with your shoulders and your shoulders should be even with your hip sockets.
3. Bad sleeping habits
The worst sleeping position is sleeping on your stomach. You have to turn your head 90 degrees to the side in order to breathe. Sleeping with a too- thick or too-thin pillow can also be a big problem. Pick a good pillow to sleep on.
4. Not using a good pillow

5. Muscle strain and tension
This creates inflammation and difficulty in moving. Try to do neck stretches to relax muscles and avoid gestures or positions that are painful.
Some people place stress right through the back of their neck. On the other hand, stress doesn’t precisely cause anything, but it worsens everything. Try to relax yourself. Take a couple of deep breaths and smile.
7.Work or Computer Station Set-up
If you have continued poor posture or if forced to be in a difficult position, it creates misalignment and muscle strain which can result to excess nerve pressure. This nerve pressure causes pain. Move around once in a while and perform some neck stretches to release tension that starts to build.
8.Improper exercise or work-outs
Lifting too much weight when working out or not using the right mechanics or posture can cause neck pain. For instance, when doing abdominal crunches, keep your eyes at the ceiling and concentrate on crunching with your abs, not your neck.
9.Having your neck in awkward positions for extended periods
This is related to the two previous neck pain reasons. Doing things like reading with your head down, sleeping in an awkward position, prolonged sitting, and many more can create tension. As much as possible, try to avoid these things.
10.Lack of stretches before physical activity
We always do stretches first when we started gym class or had basketball practice. However, some people looked like they neglected the old stretching routine. Remember that it only takes seconds to stretch and it could avoid neck pain.
